On Tuesday, 7 November 2017, Dr Sadek Hamid, a Senior Researcher at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, Oxford University, delivered an erudite, thoughtful and insightful presentation derived from the research findings of his highly acclaimed book, ‘Sufis, Salafis and Islamists: The Contested Ground of British Political Activism:’ In his presentation, he outlined the competing strands of Islamic political activity in the UK, illustrating how these movements vie for the hearts of minds of Muslim communities in Britain, particularly the students and youth members. The highly topical issues raised, thoroughly engaged the audience, who benefitted immensely from Dr Hamid’s knowledge and perspectives.

An lively discussion followed the presentation – providing staff, students and members of the public with the opportunity to raise a variety of interesting questions which arose from his lecture.
